Day In The Life Of An Audio Engineer

My Day to Day

I come into work and get ready to do a recording session with an artist. For example, one day might be a couple of hip-hop artists or rappers recording three to four songs over a five hour session. A lot of times the artists will come in with pre-made instrumentals, which makes the workflow quicker and easier. I load up the instrumentals then send the artists into the booth to record. That's the tracking process. After that, I'll go into the mixing process and then finally the mastering process.

Advice for getting started

Find an internship in audio engineering or production. I recommend going to studios with your resume to meet face-to-face with the people who work there rather than trying to reach out virtually.

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

    My love for making music started when I got my first guitar at age 10.

  • 2.

    In high school, I had a friend who made beats and showed me more of the production side of things, which piqued my interest.

  • 3.

    I got software on my own computer and started making beats.

  • 4.

    After high school, I went to Paradise Valley Community College for music production.

  • 5.

    I completed one semester before realizing it wasn’t the best fit for me, so I did some research and found the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences.

  • 6.

    After completing nine months of schooling, the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences requires two months of internships, so I got an internship with Demun Studios.

  • 7.

    I worked as an intern for a couple of months before Demun Studios hired me on to lead sessions as an audio engineer.

  • 8.

    I’ve been working for Demun Studios ever since, recording with many different artists and gaining as much experience as I can.
